Stem cells- Cells which have great potential in curing cancer

Many people see cancer as a deadly disease because of its uncontrolled division of mutated cells, which will be fatal when it is spread to the respiratory system. Fortunately, thanks to the very effort of scientists in recent years, we can now see light at the end of the tunnel. For years, scientists have been investigating a cell, which has the capability of self-renewal, and this is Stem Cell.

Stem cell was discovered by Canadian scientists Ernest A. Mcculloch and James E. Till in 1960s.
Stem cells can mostly be found in embryonic cells in placenta and fewer in adult tissue cells such as bone marrow. In order to prove that stem cells indeed work, scientists tried to perform experiments by injecting stem cells into a white mice's body in which it has a broken bone marrow.
And surprisingly, the experiment turned out to be successful. The following is a link to a similar experiment:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eYyT_R5Br0&feature=related.

As stem cell has the ability to regenerate and repair, it is suggested that it has a great potential in curing some deadly disease like cancer. This is certainly a breakthrough in the scientific field, however is it really possible that it can fully unleash its potential and help the millions? This question is yet to be answered as it still required further research and investigation so as to ensure that it is safe for cancer treatment.
